Millennials may be perceived as non-traditional, but when it comes to engagement, they are much more traditional than many people think. A couple of years ago, diamond seller James Allen conducted a survey and it turned out that among respondents aged 25-34 who were already married, over 41% would have wished their partners had proposed on Valentine’s Day. So if you are thinking about proposing or having your engagement on Valentine’s Day, do not doubt!<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Young romance – Millennials embrace tradition and get engaged<\/h2>\n

Participants in the survey ranged in age from 18 to over 55, some of whom were newly married and others had been cohabiting or married for many years. For 25- to 34-year-olds, New Year’s Eve was the most popular day to get engaged, about 23% of those responding had wanted to get a ring that evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

25% of 35- to 44-year-olds thought Valentine’s Day was the best day to get engaged, but the majority, 35%, answered that it doesn’t matter. Among those older than 55, only 15% chose February 14 as the best day to get engaged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked about how they had proposed themselves, 25- to 34-year-olds responded that they had given flowers (34%), that they had their family (26%) or friends (19%) present. 13% responded that their partners had proposed in public. Together with 18- to 24-year-olds, it was also them who rarely responded that they had not proposed at all, compared with 17% of the oldest group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of all the age groups surveyed, respondents who were 34 years and below were also much more likely to get down on one knee, 65% of 18- to 24-year-olds, and 44% of 25- to 34-year-olds, compared to 31% in the age group 45-54.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”117805″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Millennial proposals<\/h3>\n

The survey also showed that <\/span>engagement rings<\/span><\/a> have become more, not less, popular over the years, with only 11% of 25- to 34-year-olds responding that they “did not have an engagement ring.” In comparison, 39% of the age group over 55 responded that they did not seal the engagement with a <\/span>diamond ring<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Millennials were also by far the most likely to have shared the news of their engagement on social media, with an astonishing 95% of 24-35-year-olds having posted the engagement on Facebook. One interpretation is that social media makes younger generations more, not less, conventional in terms of engagement, proposing according to all traditions, on their knees, with flowers and an engagement ring.<\/span><\/p>\n

Without a doubt, social media has a huge influence on how millennials get engaged and get married. Facebook and Instagram often show images with hashtags about love, engagement rings, weddings and romantic occasions.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”117795″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

The survey also asked questions about personal experiences<\/h3>\n

Many couples felt more stressed about choosing <\/span>the perfect ring<\/span><\/a> than about the engagement itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Men are about twice more likely to regret that they did not buy a more expensive engagement ring than the women. 93% of women say they are happy with their ring and 33% of men say they wish they had bought a finer ring.<\/span><\/p>\n

45% of respondents would have preferred to buy the ring together with their partner.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of four respondents was disappointed with the proposal, and the most common complaint was that their partner had not made enough effort.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to statistics from the United States, more than ever was spent on engagement rings in 2018, on average $ 6163 for the engagement ring, which was an increase of 21% compared to 2011.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Sweden, 40% of all engagements take place between December and until Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February. The romance of Christmas and the festive atmosphere during the New Year\u2019s holiday must have something to do with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to weddings, statistics show that most people choose to get married during the summer months, June, July and August. Almost half of all weddings are celebrated in summer, and then usually on a Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n
