Getting Married Abroad

Many people choose to get married abroad, others dream of doing it, but do not know how. It is actually a fun alternative, wedding and honeymoon all at once! In addition, it can be a way of not having to invite everyone you know and instead have a small ceremony with the very closest ones, or maybe all by yourselves.

If you are planning a wedding abroad you’ll need to check the local law. Each country has different rules, and the rules might also vary depending on your and your partner’s nationality and country of residence. If you are getting married in a different EU country from the one where you live, check with the authorities in both countries which formalities are needed for your marriage to have full force and effect in both countries. Eftersom att reglerna kan vara så olika från land till land är det bäst att kontakta utlandsförsamlingen i landet där man vill gifta sig så kan prästen där informera er om vilka handlingar ni behöver ha med er. En del kyrkor är väldigt populära, så var ute i god tid.

Om ni ska vigas enligt svensk lag i utlandet behövs oftast pass eller annan giltig identitetshandling, intyg om hindersprövning och intyg om vigsel, detta ansöker man om hos Skatteverket. Blankett för kyrklig handling/vigsel, den beställer man hos församlingen man tillhör i Sverige.
